DALLAS — Star point guard Kyrie Irving of the Dallas Mavericks will not suit up again for the team this season after suffering a torn ACL Monday night. Irving went out of the Mavericks’ game against the Sacramento Kings late in the first quarter, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.
The 14-year veteran guard’s devastating season-ending injury is another major hiccup in a rocky season for Dallas, as several key players are also currently out of the lineup, including the recently acquired star power forward Anthony Davis, who’s only played one game for the team.

Along with several injuries, general manager Nico Harrison and Mavericks ownership has experienced significant blowback from the team’s fanbase and people that follow the NBA after trading superstar point guard Luka Doncic. Doncic was a very popular player in Dallas, who had just recently led the Mavericks to the NBA Finals during the 2023-24 NBA season.
Irving was having a great season for the Mavericks, making his ninth All-Star appearance, while averaging 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.3 steals on 47.3% shooting from the field and 40.15 from behind the arc. Irving could potentially become a free agent this offseason, with a third-year player option on his contract that he signed with the team heading into last season.
