3-Hour Waits For TSA Lines In Houston
Travelers in Houston are facing hours-long waits to get through security due to staffing issues caused by the government shutdown. Wait times for TSA checkpoints at George Bush Intercontinental Airport reached three-hours for the second-straight day Monday.
The lines snaked around and out of terminals. TSA agents have been working without pay since the shutdown. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has said agents won’t be fired for not showing up for work.
HISD Expands Free Meal Programs During SNAP Funding Delay
Houston ISD officials say they’re expanding free breakfast and after-school supper programs at dozens of campuses. The expanded programs are in response to the temporary defunding of food stamps from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program as the result of the ongoing federal government shutdown. A recent court ruling requires the United States Department of Agriculture to provide partial SNAP benefits for this month.
15-Year-Old Detained In Fatal Shooting Of Teen In North Harris County
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that killed a teenage boy in north Houston on Monday afternoon. Deputies responded around 3:20 p.m. to the reported shooting at an apartment complex on Bammel-North Houston Road near Fallbrook. They found a victim between the ages of 15 and 17 who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. After speaking with witnesses, deputies detained a 15-year-old who was in a nearby apartment. Investigators say the shooting may have resulted from a drug deal.
Large Alligator In Richmond Neighborhood
State officials are telling residents of a Richmond subdivision to get used to having a large alligator as a neighbor. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department says the reptile appears to be a non-nuisance alligator, since it hasn’t reportedly caused any problems, so there’s no reason to remove it. The Harvest Green neighborhood association says they get regular reports of gators in the area, but none of them are troublemakers. Parks and Wildlife officials advise people to leave the alligator alone and keep an eye on the pets.
Rockets Defeat Mavericks
The Rockets notched a fourth straight win with a 110-102 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in Houston. Amen Thompson paced the Rockets with 27 points. Alperen Sengun chipped in a double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds as Houston improved to 4-and-2. The Rockets visit the Memphis Grizzlies tomorrow night. P.J. Washington scored a game-high 29 points for Dallas in the losing effort. The Mavs have lost back-to-back games to slip to 2-and-5. They host the New Orleans Pelicans tomorrow night.
Texans Host Jaguars In Week 10
The Texans are at home for an AFC South matchup in Week 10. Houston will host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday afternoon at NRG Stadium. The Texans come off an 18-15 loss to the Denver Broncos in Week Nine. C.J. Stroud remains in concussion protocol after leaving the game in the second quarter of Sunday’s game. He has passed for 1,702 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions this season. The Texans are third in the division at 3-and-5.
